ABOUT ME

Mixa-llegint2

Where should I start? I’m Mixa, nice to meet you!

My name is Anna, but my nickname, Mixa, is the nickname I’ve used in all the literary forums I’ve joined since I was ten years old.

I am a literary prescriber and content creator (founder of this blog and and a YouTube channel called “Paraula de Mixa”, and president of the Associació de Joves Lectors Catalans (AJLC), a non profit association for young readers.

WHO AM I?

Mixa-llegint2

Where do I start talking about myself? I’m Mixa, enchanted! No, before you ask, I’m not a big cat lover, but rather music, writing and reading.

My name is Anna, but my nickname, Mixa, is the nickname I’ve used in all the literary forums I’ve participated in, such as “Què Llegeixes?” a platform for the promotion of reading promoted by the ILC (Institució de les Lletres Catalanes) of which I was a member from the age of ten.

I am a literary prescriber, cultural facilitator, creator of the blog and channel “Paraula de Mixa”, and president of the Associació de Joves Lectors Catalans (AJLC), an initiative formed by and for young people to promote reading among the youth public.

BOOKS

I like to share my passion for books everywhere I can. I started out as a blogger and booktuber (talking about books on YouTube), but I also joined the literary communities of Instagram and TikTok.

RADIO & TV

I have worked with several radio stations such as Teen Buzz Radio (the only online radio in the world created for teenagers who want to improve their English). In 2020 I also joined the TV show Tot es Mou (TV3).

MUSIC

The world of music has always fascinated me and to this day I keep  playing instruments such as the guitar, the ukulele or the piano. I’ve also taken singing lessons for years (and you’ll often hear me humming a song in and out of the shower).

CULTURE

I love spreading the word about culture and encouraging more people to read. I take part in literary festivals and book presentations, run several book clubs and offer workshops and talks for young people and teachers.

WRITING

One of my childhood dreams is to become a writer. I have participared in the jury of several literary prizes and in 2023 I won the VII Fantasy Fiction Award Frederic Pujulà.

LANGUAGES

I am fluent in Catalan, Spanish and English (CPE). I was one of the youngest teachers in the international network of Helen Doron academies, which includes more than 4,000 teachers in 36 countries.

BOOKS AND ME

Mixa

I owe a lot to my mother, one of which is my love for books. I think that I will never be able to repay her for the amount of hours she spent reading to me, taking me to the library and buying books for me. Bedtime stories were magical moments.

With my father, however, things were a little different… He fell asleep listening to his own voice! Every time he would read Peter Pan to me we rarely left the Big Ben behind before he started to yawn!

My favorite writer is Sir Terry Pratchett. I’m a proud Ravenclaw, although there’s a lot of Hufflepuff in me too (let’s say I’m a Huffleclaw ^.^). My patronus is a Saint Bernard, and my dæmon an ocelot.

Mixa

I read to expand my horizons and discover the secret worlds that lie beyond, I read to escape the daily grind and come back with a smile…

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO READ AND WHY?

Mixa-llegint

One time I was asked: “Why do you read?” and my answer was  “I read for the same reason I breathe”. Nowadays I believe it: my passion for books has become part of me, and the act of reading a reflex action that give me live (and takes it away from me with its absence).

Quoting the Valencian author Joan Fuster i Ortells “Books do not replace life, but life does not replace books either”. I read to expand my horizons and discover the secret worlds that lie beyond, I read to escape the daily grind and come back with a smile…

As to to my reading tastes, when it comes to rating a book – just like wine tasting- I am first drawn to its appearance. I want its colours to catch my eyes and promise to surprise me. The provenance and the vintage do not matter much to me as long as its content is fresh and original, with very varied notes of adventure, mystery, humor, fantasy, science fiction…

From time to time, however, I also like to try different stuff as long as it has a sweet, emotional or deep aftertaste, but above all… I want it to leave me pleading for more!
